Two large schools sit empty and abandoned on a warm Spring afternoon in 2009. Closed since 2003 and 2004, respectively, these buildings will deteriorate rapidly as the roofs on each leak water.
When the city is littered with empty, boarded up and/or burned houses all over town, it is no secret that its population had been declining for quite some time. Last year, a new plan was announced to close 12 additional schools beyond these two and others that have closed over the last decade. The prospects of these two ever reopening are slim.
